AFL Cape York
AFL Cape York House, a not for profit foundation, is dedicated to building a positive future for young Indigenous Australians through a range of programs. SKS Indigenous Technologies proudly donates to AFL Cape York House each year, with one of its most significant initiatives being the annual Chris Johnson and Angie Nadredre Cup, held in Bamaga. This event is AFL Cape York’s longest running tournament and brings together over 120 young football players from Far North Queensland and the Torres Straight Islands.
Named after Chris Johnson, the Cup is a cornerstone in the development of Indigenous Australian rules football. Chris is known for his passion for mentorship and leadership and has been pivotal in nurturing young talent and fostering a sense of community and cultural connection. Each year, participants embark on a journey from Cairns to Bamaga, engaging in various community activities and educational sessions along the way.
The Chris Johnson Cup is integral in identifying emerging talent for national and state programs, while also providing a platform for skill development and personal growth. The tournament emphasises the importance of education through its "No School, No Play" program, encouraging young athletes to excel academically as well as on the field.
